Binder carbon explorer

Change the proportions and emission factors to compare two binder scenarios. Default values are illustrative, not product data.

Your scenario

Cement plus supplementary cementitious material (SCM).

30%

Total binder stays constant. The range explores arithmetic, not mixture feasibility.

Illustrative binder emissions

225.0kg CO₂e per m³ of concrete · binder only

252 kg cement + 108 kg SCM per m³

26.5% lower
81.0 kg CO₂e/m³ below the baseline

Equal total binder mass. Baseline uses only cement at the same cement emission factor.

What this calculation includes

Binder emissions = cement mass × cement factor + SCM mass × SCM factor

Replacement is by mass. Enter factors with the same accounting boundary, allocation basis, and units, preferably from relevant product environmental declarations. The default 0.85 and 0.10 factors are hypothetical teaching values.

This tool excludes aggregates, admixtures, transport, batching, placement, service life, and end-of-life impacts. It does not predict strength or durability, verify an EPD, or establish that two mixtures are functionally equivalent. A higher SCM factor can increase the calculated result.
